I wish to congratulate Lubbock State School on their recent 35th Anniversary. Occasions such as this allow us to reflect on where we've been and where we're going. The staff, volunteers and parents have worked together over the years to improve the lives of the special individuals served by the school. I know in the years to come the Volunteer Services Council will continue to enrich their lives.

The purpose of the Volunteer Services Council is to plan projects and activities, to identify needed equipment, plus provide ‘hands-on’ assistance at times. One of our most important goals is fundraising, which supports these needs.

Over $150,000 was raised in FY 2004 through food booths at the fair, Sunny Days golf tournament, garage sales, grants and contributions from corporations and individuals. I want to thank you for your generous and continued support. We funded activities totaling over $10,000 and purchased over $70,000 in hydro-therapy bathing equipment and recently ordered equipment for our ‘Opening Doors’ Project.

I invite you to join us in helping the residents of the Lubbock State School and look forward to seeing you out there. Be it serving turkey legs at the fair or planting flowers in the spring, there’s a place for everyone.
